what the hook is all about…

The hook is the one thing that grabs at your users and triggers that happy place, that rush of endorphins that will make them come back and want more.  You find it in the best pop songs just as easily as you find it in the best pop apps.

Our game, knighthood, has a great hook.  I’ll leave it as an exercise to the reader to discover what that might be, but I can tell you the one thing you need to do to get your hook.

Make your users care.

If they care about what they’re doing or what’s going on in your app, then you have your hook.

What’s great about social games is that you can already leverage something that people already care about, which is their existing social relationships.  If you can translate that into them caring about the game, you have your hook.
